First Snow Storm!

We took a break from working to explore Saratoga during the first snow storm of the season.  Winter has finally arrived!

When it rains…

So yesterday we were just riding along, having a fairly pleasant day and we decided to stop briefly and get Alan’s rear tire trued at Century Cycles in Peninsula, Ohio. It turned out it be a very, very good decision. Alan got his brake cables and pads changed and his wheels trued (pretty routine maintenance). [...]

Kentucky ups and downs

We awoke this morning to the sound of rain on the tent and neither of us wanted to get up. Luckily it died down about half an hour later and we packed up and headed out into the Kentucky hills.
The clouds cleared and the sun came out, but we were still having a rough day. [...]

A stormy day

This morning we awoke to some very stormy skies. Turned out a thunderstorm was rolling in so we headed for the local diner to grab some breakfast before what was looking like it was going to be a very rainy day. By the time we finished breakfast it was pouring buckets and thundering, so we [...]

Henderson to Hawesville, KY

Yesterday was quite an adventure. It would take forever to narrate through it, so I’ll just give you an outline of the day:
9am- After breakfast we leave Henderson and get lost four times trying to get out of city limits (poorly signed roads).

2:00- Finally roll into Owensboro after taking two more wrong turns on the [...]

A rainy day in Kansas

This morning we got up early because the forecast called for rainstorms all day. It was dry as we left, but it sure looked threatening.

We rode 65 miles and it rained. Hard. Then it would stop and we’d dry off and get hot and it would rain again. We passed mostly fields all day and ended [...]

A Quick Update

We’re in a diner this morning grabbing some much needed coffee… last night we were up for about 3 hours during a severe lightning storm that struck here in Imperial, Nebraska. Fortunately there were some public bathrooms in the park near our tent and when the storm started getting a little scary we took to [...]

3 flats, 1 tornado watch and tons of friendly folks

Yesterday we took a rest day in Fort Collins and decided to check out the downtown area. We didn’t make it too far with our loaded bikes before a really nice young couple started chatting us up and ended up inviting us for a beer at one of the local breweries, New Belgium. We took [...]

Some rain across Eastern Wyoming

This section of Wyoming is pretty much rolling hills and grasslands. It makes for really pleasant riding- and we’ve had a really nice tailwind the past couple of days too!

The problem with being out here is that towns are pretty few and far between.
It’s nice because there is very little traffic, but every afternoon we’ve been hitting [...]

A stormy introduction to Wyoming

The Teton mountains are awe-inspiring. They seem to rise out of nowhere and this time of year are covered in glistening snow.

We got to hang out a bit more with Jan and JB in their place at the foot of the mountains- which was fantastic because it was freezing cold and raining/hailing/snowing. Between storms though, [...]
