We took a break from working to explore Saratoga during the first snow storm of the season. Winter has finally arrived!

For Columbus Day weekend our friends Spencer and Colleen (we stayed with them when we rode through Buffalo, NY) came to visit us in the Adirondacks! We had a blast- did some hiking and enjoyed the end of the fall colors.
Spencer even decided to try a quick dip in the lake. It was about 51 degrees outside, but sunny, and he thought it might be “refreshing”. We all thought he was crazy.

But he survived, proclaiming it “chilly”.
Anyway, we had a fantastic time with them and were sad to see them head back to Buffalo Sunday night.
Yesterday we buckled back down to work making some final selections of photographs for the show and today we’ll be doing our last transcription before we start stitching the audio together! It’s getting exciting because we’re starting to see the piece take shape… all we have left to do is tone, print, stitch, synch, put it all on a website and start touring it! Whew…
The past few days we’ve been hanging out in the Adirondacks- a place that we both missed dearly during our trek around the country.

We’ve caught up with family and friends and tried not to look at photos from the trip… we’ll be getting to those on Monday. For now? Some downtime and some good rest for our legs.

We’ll be updating this blog as we begin the process of editing and transcribing. We’ll be starting bright and early Monday morning!
Last night we tented at a marina on the Erie Canal in a little town called St. Johnsville. The canal was beautiful in the evening light.

We awoke this morning completely fogged in. Figuring we had another day of rain ahead of us, we packed up the tent one last time and hit the road.

We grabbed breakfast in a diner called the Hungry Bear and the people sitting behind us apparently heard the waitress asking us about our trip and bought us our breakfast- we never even chatted with her! It was the perfect last breakfast for a trip where one of the most striking features has been the kindness of complete strangers.
By the time we finished breakfast the skies had cleared and it was beautiful. We rode along the canal all the way to Amsterdam and then cut up towards Charlton. We could hardly believe it when we crossed into Alan’s hometown!
We made it to his house safe and sound (though Alan’s bicycle was making lots of bad-sounding cracking noises all day) and our families were there waiting! Everyone keeps asking us how it feels, but it kind of feels like we never left! It’s just really strange knowing that tomorrow we wake up and don’t have to ride anywhere… in fact, we might sleep in! We’ve got a lot of work to do editing and transcribing all the interviews and photographs we’ve taken along the way- we’ll keep blogging, so stay tuned!
Without a computer we’ve been having difficulty updating our blog, but last night we stayed with my aunt just outside Syracuse, NY so this morning we’re using her computer! The last couple days have been fairly uneventful- lots of popped tires and a fair amount of rain. We’re riding the Erie Canal Towpath/Route from Buffalo to Amsterdam before we cut off and ride the last 15 miles or so to Alan’s parent’s house in Charlton. This morning it is pouring rain, but we are only about 120 miles from the finish! We’ll try to get a good chunk of that riding done today and hopefully the weather will cooperate and let us make some good miles. Tomorrow we roll into Charlton!! We can’t really believe that it is almost over- but then again 120 miles on a bike still feels kind of daunting (believe it or not)…
Anyway, tomorrow we’ll be home! We are ready for it. Our bodies are exhausted and people have started commenting on how tired we look. We just can’t seem to get enough sleep! Tomorrow when we roll in though, our families will be there and we can’t wait to see them and get to relax and unwind a bit. With a little bit of luck this rain will die down today and we’ll have a very pleasant last full day of riding!
Yesterday we crossed from Ohio to Pennsylvania to New York! How crazy is that?
We were thrilled to hit NY state and could hardly believe it. That means we’ve officially cycled through 30 states in 10 months… over 10,000 miles. Just under 300 miles to go!
This morning we woke up super excited to ride the 60 miles to Buffalo, NY and meet our friends Colleen and Spencer who we are staying with. We rolled in around 4 and we have spent the afternoon/evening catching up, cooking and relaxing. Tonight we’ll get a good night’s sleep before hitting the road again tomorrow to turn due east towards Charlton, NY! A huge thank you to Spencer and Colleen. We’ve had a wonderful time!
As you can probably tell from our lack of current blog posts and our tiny photo, our computer is still broken. We’re trying to Tweet more regularly to keep you updated as we finish our journey in the next couple days! We’ll upload lots more photos when we get access to a computer we can upload onto.
