Alan and I have formed a collective to act as an umbrella for our joint projects (including Project Tandem)! We’ll be updating that blog more often, so check it out at http://www.restlesscollective.org.
See you there!
Click on over to projecttandem.org and check out our new website! We’ve cleaned it up, made it a bit more professional-looking and added the entire touring show for your viewing pleasure. Let us know what you think!
Tada! Project Tandem, projected on the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. It looked great up there, and we were thrilled to have our work displayed in FotoWeek DC alongside the work of so many other incredible artists.
The slideshow ran on the Corcoran for six nights, in Dupont Circle for one night and in Georgetown for the durration of the festival. We attended all sorts of lectures and openings to take in as much art and inspiration as we could, so we found ourselves sightseeing mostly at night. That actually proved to be a breathtaking time to visit the monuments. It was serene and quiet and the lights made the iconic architecture that much more powerful. Here’s a shot I got of the Washington Monument from the Lincoln Memorial:
A huge thanks to FotoWeek DC for hosting us, and also to Fairfax Academy, where we spoke to three photography classes about Project Tandem and the design and conception of large-scale photographic projects. As a whole, the trip was a blast, and we got to see so much more of the city than we ever have before. It was also a great change of pace to be in an urban area for a little while. I think it rebooted our creativity and we’re excited to share with you some more photos very soon! In the meantime, here’s one that Alan got of the beautiful urban-ness that is the DC area:
As we gear up for our trip to Washington DC for FotoWeek DC we find ourselves sitting in front of the computers doing administrative work and spending less time making images. To try to remedy this I have been taking walks for the last couple days with the sole purpose of making images. Sometimes these are short trips inside my house and sometimes I just walk around the neighborhood.

Yesterday afternoon we headed out on the ferry to visit friends on a beautiful island called Vinalhaven. The fall colors were absolutely incredible and we wanted to share a little bit of the magic:
This morning I took the 7am ferry back to the mainland while Alan hopped aboard a lobstering boat for the day. On my way out the fog started clearing, the light was beautiful and I nabbed this shot of the island:
We’ve re-published the Project Tandem book on Blurb and made some minor color corrections. Check it out! We’re shopping the book to publishers now… how cool would that be?
It’s official! We’ll be traveling to Washington DC for FotoWeek DC, which we’re thrilled about. We can’t wait to see our photos projected onto the Corcoran Gallery! We’ll have five days in the city, which means it’ll be a bit hectic. We’ve got meetings and lectures and parties to attend (it’s rough, but it’s part of the job), and we are definitely looking forward to some warmer weather! We just finalized plans to spend Monday the 8th at Fairfax Academy for Communications and the Arts, where we’ll talk to three different classes throughout the day about Project Tandem, photography, and putting your convictions into action through art! We love talking to high schoolers and these are students who have already expressed a deep interest in the arts, so we’re really excited about this opportunity.
We thought we’d share a couple photos from 2008, around this time of year, when we were riding through the Maryland/DC/Virginia area of the country. We loved it then, and can’t wait to get back there in just a couple of weeks!

The trees are changing here in the midcoast of Maine, and we’re enjoying the cool weather. We’ve been super busy with Project Tandem, which is awesome. The show traveled to New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire and we lectured for a group of 70 college students there. That show will come down October 21st, and then will be shown at FotoWeek DC from November 6th- 13th. Needless to say, we’re thrilled.
Between bookings and press and travel for lectures, we’ve been doing a little cooking and Alan has been canning all the yummy summer vegetables for meals this winter.
We’ve been very bad bloggers, so we’re going to make an effort to rectify that situation. Stay tuned!
